This position will provide work experience in multiple aspects of diversified organic vegetable farming. Applicants will work a varied schedule that includes farmers market sales, produce packing and delivery. This position will require not more than 40 hours of work per week. In order to further enrich farm experience and learning, interns are encouraged to attend Saturday CRAFT (Collaborative Regional Alliance for Farmer Training) meetings that occur at various farms around the region periodically during the season.
This is a seasonal position starting in late April or May and ending in Nov, though some winter work may be available. Pay is $12 per hour. Housing may be available in the farm house at our Granby farm location. This position is ideal for someone relatively new to commercial farming who is seeking to gain solid real world experience.
About the farm:
Red Fire Farm is a diversified produce farm located in the towns of Montague and Granby MA. Many of our fields are made of rich alluvial soils along the shore of the Connecticut River. The farm plants about 120 acres of crops each year, including vegetables, berries & tree fruits, and produce is sold via CSA, Farmers Markets, and Wholesale. The farm has been in operation since 1990 and has been continuously certified organic since 1995. (But the new tree fruit plantings will be low spray, ecologically managed, but not organic.
