Job Description

Red Fire Farm, a leader in organic farming with more than 100 acres in cultivation in the Pioneer Valley, is seeking experienced, responsible drivers for year-round positions with the potential for Farmer’s Market duties as well.

Drivers are responsible for getting our CSA farm share and wholesale orders to customers in the valley as well as various locations in the greater Boston area. We deliver Tuesday-Friday every week, with additional shifts available some Mondays and Saturdays. June through December is our seasonal peak with full-time hours, with part time work available in the later winter and spring.

This is a fast-paced job that comes with a lot of autonomy. It’s physically demanding but mentally rigorous as well: there will be lots of tiny details to keep in your head each day. We’re looking for someone with previous driving experience, but we’re willing to train the right candidate.

You get a lot of quiet time on the road, and you need to flex a lot of muscle while loading and unloading. Must be able to lift 30-50 lbs repeatedly and move large pallets. You’ll work with warm, wonderful people on both sides of your drive and go home with all the veggies you can eat.

This position may also include working at our Farmers Markets on Tuesdays in the summer. Responsibilities include loading a box truck with market infrastructure and produce and setup in a timely way before the start of a market. At the end of each market, assistants return to the farm and unload their vehicles.

Market days are long and full of hard work, but these are coveted positions on the farm: the markets we work are a lot of fun, people love interacting with the public and bring back really useful feedback for the rest of the crew.

For the right candidate, this opportunity could be combined with field crew work (see our website for full job description) making it more of a full-time position. The schedule could potentially look like: Monday field crew, Tuesday Farmers’ Market, Wednesday through Friday field crew or other delivery opportunities.

Qualified applicants MUST have:

– A valid driver’s license and clean driving record (unfortunately you will not be considered for the position without this)
– Ability to work efficiently based on priorities
– Ability to self motivate and follow a list – much of this position is performed independently
– Ability to lift 50lbs repeatedly and easily, and to hustle through a physically busy day
– Experience in customer service and retail
– Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and e-mail
– Familiarity with produce and garden plants a plus
– Ability to be a team player with a can do attitude
– Passion for local food

LOCATION: Position located at 184 Meadow Road in Montague, MA.

JOB TYPE: Full-time

SALARY: $11.00 to $12.00 /hour plus all the organic produce you can eat.
