Red Fire Farm is hiring a Farm Human Resources to help with payroll, a large labor budget, taking good care of our crew, and maintaining staffing plans for our organic farm. This position is year-round, based at Red Fire’s Montague office and has seasonal hours: March through November, it is 10-20 hours/week, down to 8-10 hours/week in winter.
Red Fire is an organic vegetable farm with more than 100 acres in cultivation between its Montague and Granby properties. The farm has a large local CSA membership, major wholesale customers and a robust retail operation. At the peak of the season, there can be as many as 90+ people on the payroll.
The HR Manager works closely with other farm managers to make sure the crew is adequately staffed and trained during various times of the year. They also work closely with our payroll company to process bi-weekly payroll and monitor labor costs and other farm expenses.
Work includes:
Administering: Payroll, Workers Compensation, Unemployment, and other programs
- Assist in maintaining and communicating staffing plans, schedules, and attendance tracking with other managers
- Recruiting and retaining staff
- Assist with interviews and reference checks
- Assist managers in performance reviews, giving feedback, training plans and other HR issues
- Help advocate for crew, listen to and mediate issues, and give guidance
The ideal candidate will have worked in an operations or administrative role in other organizations or as a manager on a farm. The HR Manager needs to have exceptional interpersonal skills, strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and an ability to anticipate the big-picture needs of a dynamic organization. A big heart and a thick skin at the same time are helpful qualities to give good structured care to the staff on the busy farm. Great computer skills and organization with strong attention to detail will help make the job go smoothly.

Schedule: Part-time, some time on Mondays and Fridays necessary, plus 1-2 other days as needed. Some remote work possible.
Compensation: Hourly rate based on experience. Additionally, great organic produce and farm atmosphere to enjoy all year round.
Location: 184 Meadow Road, Montague, MA, with some days at our Granby farm occasionally
